In short
As of October 2026, PMMVY pays eligible women Rs 5,000 for a first child, in two instalments of Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, and Rs 6,000 for a second child if she is a girl, in one instalment. You need Aadhaar, an Aadhaar-mapped account and one eligibility proof, such as an SC/ST certificate, BPL card or income below Rs 8 lakh.
What PMMVY is
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a maternity benefit scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, launched across India from 1 January 2017 under Section 4 of the National Food Security Act, 2013. It aims to give "partial compensation for the wage loss so that the woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the child" and to "promote health-seeking behaviour". Since 1 April 2022 it runs as PMMVY 2.0 under Mission Shakti, which added a benefit for a second child if she is a girl.

How to apply
Through your Anganwadi worker or ASHA, or yourself on the official portal pmmvy.wcd.gov.in with the Citizen Login. Our step-by-step PMMVY login and status guide shows each screen. The second payment depends on two things you can plan for: registering the birth and completing the first vaccines by 14 weeks.
PMMVY and the other schemes
The PMMVY conditions listed above do not include the place of birth. If you give birth in a public facility or an accredited private hospital, you may also receive Janani Suraksha Yojana, and your delivery itself is free in public institutions under JSSK.
By 30 September 2026, the portal reported 5.19 crore women enrolled, 4.42 crore paid, and Rs 20,811 crore paid in total.
