In short
The WHO and the NHS advise starting solid foods at around 6 months, alongside breast milk or formula, when your baby can sit and hold their head steady, pick up food and bring it to their mouth, and swallow it. Whole cow's milk as a main drink and honey wait until after the first birthday.

Questions parents ask
Can I start before 6 months?
The WHO and the NHS recommend around 6 months. Some pediatric societies accept starting between 4 and 6 months for some babies; if you are thinking of starting earlier, talk to your health visitor or pediatrician first.
My baby was born early. Which date do I use?
Ask your pediatrician. Advice for premature babies is individual, so the calculator gives the dates from birth and reminds you to check.
